Imagine #8

You shifted in bed for the hundredth time that night.

“(Y/N).” Ed whined from his place on the bed next to you. “Stop moving.” You let out a small sigh and tried to stay still. Another half hour passed and you couldn’t take it anymore. As slowly as you could you got up from the bed.  As you peeked back at the sleeping Ed, you grabbed one of his hoodies.  You pulled it over your head as you walked silently from the bedroom. You wandered into your living room. As your eyes scanned the room, they stopped on Ed’s guitar.  You had learned to play when you were little, but had given up on it. You played piano too. Ed knew that you played piano, but you never told him you knew how to play guitar. Slowly you walked over to his guitar. You knelt down on the floor by the stand where Ed’s guitar was sitting.  You reached your hand out and ran your fingers across the strings. They let out a soft hum. A small smile broke out on your face. As quietly as you could, you picked up his guitar and put it in your lap. You placed your fingers in the position of a G chord and gently strummed. The sound was slightly off, but not bad.  As carefully and quietly as you could, you began to play the only song you remembered. You fumbled around with the chords until you were sure about how it went. Slowly you started to sing with the guitar.

I’ve heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don’t really care for music, do you

It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
You smiled and moved to the chorus.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

You stopped playing and looked down at the guitar. The small smile that had been ghosting across your lips got bigger. You jumped when you felt two warm hands on your waist.

“I didn’t know you could play.” Ed voice was raspy and deep. He gently slid his hands under your hoodie and shirt, so that they rested on your bare skin. He began to rub small circles in the skin of your hips.

“I haven’t in a long time.” You said quietly. Ed slowly nuzzled his face in the crook of your neck.

“You should more often.” He said slowly. His breath was warm on your neck. “Play me something.”

“But I only remember one song.”

“Then play that.” He whispered. Slowly you continued the song you had been playing before.

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

You were going to play the chorus again, when you felt his lips on your neck. His lips moved down your neck slowly. They left soft kisses on the skin as they went. Your fingers stumbled, before you quit playing all together.  Ed slowly made his way back up your neck. His nose brushed against your cheek, making goose bumps appear on your skin.

“Why did you stop?” He whispered into your ear. You stayed quiet, staring at the wall in front of you.  He chuckled and moved from your neck. Then his hands left the skin on your waist. The skin felt cold without his warm touch.  Ed stood up and walked in front of you. He smiled at you and took the guitar from you. He gently placed it back on it’s stand. He held out a hand for you to take. “Let’s go to bed.” You nodded and stood up. You tangled your fingers with his. He led you quietly back to the room the two of you shared. You let go of his hand and curled up into a ball under the covers. The bed sank as Ed crawled in next to you. He slid so that his body wrapped around yours. His arms wrapped around your waist. You smiled as he buried his face in your hair. Right as you were about to fall asleep he started to sing.

Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I’ve walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I’ve seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah

He sang until he was sure you were fast asleep.
